The advice to avoid contact with the river between Vic Lucas Park at Bulimba and Colmslie Beach Reserve in Murarrie has now been lifted.
The advice was issued after persistent wet weather during this critical project resulted in wastewater releases into the river.
Our sampling results show the impacts of this release have been resolved.
During wet weather, stormwater infiltrates our wastewater network, increasing flows.
While one of the pipes inside the tunnel of the Bulimba-Hamilton Siphon is offline as part of this once-in-a-generation renewal project, we need to manage excess wet weather flows through an emergency relief point.
These releases are permitted during the project under our environmental authority from the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation.
Releases during wet weather events are not related to the current works underway to install a temporary bypass pipeline or the break that occurred in one of the pipes in the siphon in January.
