A wastewater release has occurred due to the recent wet weather during a critical project.
We understand this may be disruptive for river users and we apologise for any inconvenience or concern.
During wet weather, stormwater infiltrates our wastewater network increasing flows.
While the Bulimba-Hamilton Siphon Renewal Program is underway, we need to manage these increased flows through a temporary emergency relief overflow structure. This relief point minimises impacts to our customers and the environment while one of the pipes inside the siphon is offline for renewal.
Releases during wet weather events are permitted during this essential project under our environmental authority from the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation.
Releases during wet weather events are not related to the current works underway to install a temporary bypass pipeline or the break that occurred in one of the pipes in the siphon in January.
