Hays Inlet Water Quality
Written by Meade Murphy
Created / Updated on Thursday 24th of March 2022
For over 20 years, new members wanting to join the Redcliffe City Amateur Anglers Fishing Club (RCAA) have asked why we don’t fish the Hays Inlet Estuary. It has been hard to reply, as we can’t get our average 16 fish/person. The average club fisher person spends on average $100.00 per trip on bait, tackle, beer, fuel, ice etc. When you divide this by 16 it works out to be $6.25 per fish, Hays Inlet would work out to be on average $20.00 per fish as it is a failed estuary system. Our data .....

Save Hays Inlet and the Dugongs
Written by Meade Murphy
Created / Updated on Tuesday 22nd of February 2022
Recently, a pair of dugong was spotted by a local resident, grazing on the newly regenerated seagrass in Hays Inlet. This is a testament to our parent body QAFCA and our political representative Sunfish, who in 2008 negotiated the green and yellow zones in this area. The health of the inlet has come back after it was turned into a desert by constant commercial net fishing. It got so bad that the local RCAA fishing club had to abandon it as a designated trip venue.

In 1993, Hays Inl .....

East Coast Black Jewfish Fishery Closed
Written by Meade Murphy
Created / Updated on Thursday 25th of March 2021
The total allowable commercial catch or TACC of Black Jewfish on the East Coast has been fully fished for this year. Now that the Black Jewfish TACC has been reached, no recreational fishermen can catch and keep this fish and must be released immediately on capture - to give this fish species a better resource sustainability, remove the hook if accessible or cut the line if not.

Any recreational fisherman caught taking Black Jewfish on the East Coast until 01/01/2022 will be in breac .....

RODGOD

Created / Updated on Thursday 22nd of October 2020
Last year as judge on the A.R.B. Fishing Classic, I met two young blokes from Rainbow Beach who created a fishing product called the Rodgod. As judge, not being able to fish the competition myself, my partner Leanne drove around the island to see a number of fishermen using this product and raving about the Rodgod.

My partner Leanne bought me a Rodgod for Father's Day, and due to the bush fire on Moreton Island at the end of last year, I didn't get to use it until the 3rd round of .....

No Fanning of Tails
Written by Meade Murphy
Created / Updated on Thursday 16th of July 2020
For 60 years S.Q.A.F.C.A has fanned the tails of fish to get the full length of the fish to deem the fish legal or undersized. Last year the penalty was increased from 25 points to 80 points if the fish caught was deemed undersized

This method of measuring fish is NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE by Fisheries to all S.Q.A.F.C.A & Q.A.F.C.A. Clubs throughout Queensland. All members must lay the fish on the measuring stick and the tail must be over the legal length with the tail as it swims to be l .....
